Joystick:- It is a pointing device. Which acts like a trackball. A stick is attached to the ball. So that the ball can be rotated easily. There is a click button on the top of the stick. By which an icon or text etc. is selected. It is used in Video Games, Simulator Training, Robot Control etc. It makes playing video games easy and fun.

Joystick
LightPen: - This is a pen-shaped pointing device. Which is used as an input device. It is used to write on the screen, draw pictures, or read barcodes. Photo Shell is used in Lightpen.

Lightpen
Scanner :- It is an input device. Using which Text, Image or Diagram can be converted into digital image and stored in memory. Processing can also be done by the computer on the digital image. The scanner puts a light beam on the document made on the paper and converts the document into digital data based on the intensity of the reflected light. The scanned document is stored in the memory as a bitmap image. It can be used to keep documents in electronic form for a long time. This document can also be edited and printed if needed.

Types of Scanner :-

        1. Flat bed Scanner

        2. Hand Held Scanner

Scanner
Barcode Reader : - Barcodes are vertical black bars of different widths. They contain information according to their width and the distance between the two strips. By putting these information in the computer with the help of barcode reader, the type of product item etc. can be found out.

The barcode was invented in 1940 by Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver.

In India, in 1998, the National Information Industrial Work Force made the use of barcodes mandatory on all products.

The barcode reader uses a laser beam and enters the data through the reflected rays into the computer. Nowadays barcode is also being used in bank and post office.

Barcode Reader
MICR :- It is used to read the letters written in a special way with special ink (Iron Oxide) through the computer to read the letters through the computer. It is being used by banks in cheque/draft. This will help in making check/draft payments in less time and in larger amounts and prevent duplication. Numbers 0-9 and four symbols (total 14 characters) are used in MICR code.
Magnetic Ink Character Recognition

OMR :- OMR is an input device. Which reads special types of signs / symbols and makes them usable by the computer. Nowadays it is used for checking objective answer sheets.

OMR
OCR : -  The document scanned by the scanner is in the form of a bitmap image. We can edit it as a picture, but not as text. OCR identifies the scanned text document and converts it into word processing text. So that it can be edited in the computer. For this, Optical Character Reader and OCR software are used.

OCR
Web Camera :- It is like a normal digital camera which is used as an input device by connecting to the computer. The photo diode present in it converts the optical information into electrical waves and gives it to the computer. It is also called web cam. Webcam is used in Video Conferencing, Video Chatting, Web Broadcast etc.

Web Camera
TouchScreen :- It is a simple input device. By touching any one of the options available on the computer screen, instructions can be given and programs can be executed. In the touch screen, the infrared rays revolve around the surface of the screen. When the finger touches the displayed options, the speed of the rays is affected and its position is recorded. According to the situation, the computer executes the marked option.

Touch Screen
Microphone :- Microphone is an audio input device by which any sound is entered as input in the computer, Microphone converts sound waves into analog electrical waves. Which is converted into digital signals by the soundcard.

Microphone (Mic)

Speech Recognition System :- It is an input device. Through which the data can be put into the computer by speaking. In the Speech Recognition System, the words spoken by humans can be recognized and displayed on the computer screen in the form of text. It can also be used to control the activities of the computer by giving verbal commands.

Speech Recognition System
Electronic card reader : - Electronic card is a small card made of plastic. In which a chip or magnetic strip is attached. Data is stored in this chip or magnetic strip. Which can be read and processed with the help of an electronic card reader connected to the computer. e.g. ATM
